H Style People Looking Out for each other!

It's no secret that Beth McClelland is stylish, beautiful, a person of distinct taste and a woman of innovative ideas.  But now one of her most alluring qualities is coming out; her desire to take notice of, and support the people around her.  In fact Beth McClelland, musician Justin Wilson, writer Ekta Kalra and Laura, of Ciao Bella Body, are just some of the H Stylers who are leading in the amazing trend that has swept over H Style  Magazine. This desire to put others before oneself is what is driving our models and merchants; photographers and philanthropists; musicians and moguls--and one of the many things that sets the H Style community apart.

Read below and see why Beth McClelland and all our fabulous H Stylers--- we solute you!

 Hey there!

Thank you guys so much!!  You're super sweet!!

...I highly recommend checking out Orno.etsy.com.  I have been a huge fan since I signed to Etsy.  She and her work is stunning.  Every piece of jewelry is made from wood.  She designs and carves every piece.  My favorite are the walnut wood earrings seen here:

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=12709168

Simple...elegant and unique!

I love how she explains her process, where she procures her materials and the fact that she donates part of her profits to the Arbor Day Foundation at www.arborday.org.

It's worth the look!!

Awww you guys are absolutely sent from heaven. Thank you so much. I am very excited :-). I often visit your site and I see you guys have some pretty awesome companies and products. I am personally a huge fan of make-up and hair products, so it's really cool to see stuff like Monave on your site. I like that you guys keep everything organic and natural, as well. Also it's great to see other artists on the site. It's hard to keep up with independent or indie artists/musicians nowadays. So it's nice to hear about fellow musicians in the area. By the way, I never really shared this with you but when you first posted up that story about "having class/skin tones" I liked the small article so much that I posted a bulletin, on my official myspace page, to simultaneously inform all my friends/fans about the story on your site and how interesting it was. I hope they all went to pay you guys a visit. I'm a poem freak so of course I love the "poet" section on your site. I hope you guys post many more poems. So artistic, I love it!!! Good job. Keep up the awesomeness! ;-)

We are both Organic Food lovers and have done so for the last 20 years.  Our favorite organic food is Quinoa---so high in protein, and like rice you can make it sweet or savory! OMG, I'm getting hungry for some right now!   Also, I've discovered Chia seed (remember the Chia Pets we used to make?)  Well, it's very high in protein and used by the Aztecs.  I use it every morning in my shake I whip up in my VitaMix (a must have for a healthy bod.)

The world is not all bad.

Yeah, yesterday was a sh%%ty day…

My boss told me to make this document for the trade show.  "That looks awesome," Fran said.  "I think it's perfect," Leticia said.  My boss asked me to place it on his desktop and then spent the rest of the day changing everything I had done until it looked like a big puddle of poo and then he told me, "What you did was fine, but I wanted it to be fabulous."  F*&%k your fabulous.

My mom informed me that my cousin Nina is in town and I have to hang out with her.  I've hated her ever since I caught her trying to put her hand down the pants of my friend who was a boy who I was in love with at the 1993 family Holiday party.  She claimed that she had dropped an earring.  I would have believed her if l I didn't overhear her later asking the boy, "Why do you even hang out with Alanna?"

Steve M., my long-standing customer, came in and yelled at me about something that happened on set with the equipment I'd just sold him.  Apparently a defect in our product halted filming on Steven Soderbergh's next masterpiece and it was obviously my fault.

I fought with someone I love dearly.

My boss caught me smoking a cigarette for the first time and lectured me about cancer and I told him that nicotine helps with my digestion and he smiled at me in that condescending "you're disgusting and [jacked-up]" way.

I was 30 minutes late to my writing class, drove around and around and around and couldn't find parking, was going to make a left over a double yellow line and a cop was parked right next to the parking space I wanted and he watched me with my turn signal on and he was smiling in that "I'm going to write you a ticket the second you cross that double yellow line" way so I gritted my teeth and moved on, making a tire screeching u-turn at the stop sign only to watch a silver Mercedes Benz bumping some really bad rap slide into my space.  The cop then had the gall to wave at me.

Once I finally found parking elsewhere, I had to rush and I kept having to hike up my leggings and I forgot my water bottle and I had to pee so I went to the bathroom and dropped my computer bag in a puddle by the toilet which I'm hoping against hope was water.  When I eventually got into class FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATE, I had to cross the classroom, bumping people with my wet computer bag to get to the only chair left.  I was unbelievably sweaty and anxious and without any water to take a Xanax.  Chuckles loaned me her sparkly Japanese fan which I used for an additional 30 minutes trying to get my cold sweat down to a hot sweat and the fan developed a loud creaking noise.

Awesome.

When I finally got home at 11:30 I was exhausted from anxiety and sweating.  I trudged up to my apartment and noticed a big white box holding the screen door partially ajar.  I picked it up, very curious, as I had not bought anything online lately and my birthday is not for a few weeks.

Then I remembered what it might be:

I think it was 2 months ago that I basically learned how to sew from one of my craigslist volunteer things.  And then I cleaned my house, and found an abundance of t-shirts, especially band t-shirts, that didn't fit me anymore.  One day (I was probably stoned) I decided to make pillows out of the t-shirts.  I went a little nuts, as I often do when I get a new idea, and bought tons of stuffing and started sewing a stable full of pillows.  I sent some to my friends; I made a few for my family.  Then I started thinking in broader terms:  I would have my own pillow-making company and sell on ebay and etsy and at the Melrose Trading Post.

But, like always, my wild, impetuous dreams have really harsh realities.  I had decided that I would make each t-shirt pillow $10 because $10 is the most I, personally, would spend on a novelty pillow or shoes or a music show.  And this worked okay for the t-shirts that I already had in my apartment because they were essentially free.  But the second I went to thrift stores to scope out some new material, I discovered super cute t-shirts could be as much as $4.99.  The stuffing was about $4.99 a bag and sometimes it took a whole bag to fill a shirt.  There went my "profits."

I asked friends and family for spare t-shirts and no one really rose to the occasion.  So on August 12, 2008, I posted a craigslist ad in the Wanted section of the For Sale classifieds:

I'm doing an art project with kids' t-shirts, specifically with slogans or designs on them.  Hopefully some of them have cute slogans or designs?  Or some sort of sports logo?  Dodgers?  Lakers?
Whatever you might be giving to Goodwill because your kids are grown? They can be super small to big.  Or women's baby tees?  I just don't want men's L or XXL or whatever.  I've got an idea and I'm really excited.  'Cause I'm a nerd.

No one responded for a few days.  Then on August 18th I got this email from H Style Magazine:

We have some organic t-shirts that you'd be very interested in.  Do you have a P.O. Box for us to send to?

I sent my address and thanked H Style Magazine soooo much.  I didn't look them up; I didn't try to find anything out about them.  I assumed it was a magazine out of LA that  had leftover shirts.  I checked my snail mailbox every day.

Nothing.  Weeks went by.  Nothing.

I didn't email H Style Magazine back because I didn't want to bother them.  I figured they had either forgotten or it was too expensive to ship or whatever.

But last night there was the package.  And it was from H Style Magazine. And the return address was New York.  What?  No wonder it took so long to get here.

And [spit].  They spent $6.67 on postage to send some random anonymous [person]???

I opened the box and the first thing I saw was this note lying on top of some tissue paper:

Under the note were three individually wrapped brand new t-shirts, two of which had notes attached to them:

You probably can't read this note as it's a bit blurry but it says,

Alanna,

Whatever you're working on, we know it's going to be great, because you're great!  You may be a nerd (we are at times too) but you're more than that.  You're an amazing, beautiful person who we just can feel - we just can tell-  will do great things!

Love,

H Style Magazine

It was totally unreal how my exhaustion and anxiety and anger and bitterness all kinda dissolved like rice paper candy on a tongue.  I felt beautiful and amazing.

I'm not sure who's behind H Style Magazine or why they did this but H Style Magazine is my new best friend.

Musician Justin Wilson on
Apryl Skies' Organic T-shirts:

Most of the time when you think of something being 100% organic, you think of food.  But a t-shirt? That’s creative.  It’s the sui generis tie-dye with its own distinctive flare; wrapped along side a winsome character strong enough to be a cartoon series.   And being a musician, I can’t help but love the airborne music notes wandering off J.R. Smiley.  Bravo!

Ok.  I don't know who you people are but I was about to call you at 11:30pm last night which would have been 2:30am and I wasn't sure if I would be reaching an office or someone's cell so I didn't.

I'm writing a blog right now about how s****ty my day was yesterday and then I saw your package.  And I opened it.  And you made me feel beautiful and you don't even know who I am.

I cannot put into words, although I guess if I'm writing a blog, I will be, how grateful I am.  I didn't know [if] you were in LA.  You [sent] me [these]  t-shirts.  And included such thoughtful, personal notes.  I was overwhelmed with the idea that maybe this world isn't completely full of crap.

Hello, thanks so much for your e-mail. ...At  dawn, I noticed one of my Katahdin sheep was giving birth in the field.

It was surreal to clean out the newborn lamb's mouth, for its first breath.  Mom licked her dry, as the birds sang on this cool morning.  The lamb lay in the dirt, so I moved her to the manger with fresh straw. The mother did not see her baby and was starting to graze, leaving her newborn.... The lamb let out a short baa and Mom's head reared and ran directly toward her baby in the covered manger.

"Hello,

WOW!  [Listing me?]  That would be wonderful!

I am selling Jack o Lantern Pumpkin seeds from my organic garden. Cost is $1.00 for 10 seeds.  These were just picked and will be for your [next year's] garden.

I planted 2 seeds on the side of my yard last year and as you can see from the photo they need much room to grow!

(I also currently have organic eggplant, cucumber and cantelope seeds....... while supplies last!  :)

I am always working on drying seeds and herbs from my garden so I always have something different depending on what is in season.)

I think the easiest method of payment would be to send me a self adressed stamped envelope with $1.00 and I will then mail back the seeds. I do have a Pay Pal address but the cost will be $1.42 if I use my own stamp.

Thank you!

Happy Gardening! Amy"

Hello my name is Melinda Vega and I wanted to e-mail you about Jessica Galan.  I am her dancer and I have been for 2 years and she is amazing.  Full of talent, always on the rise, and very motivated.  I love her.  I hope to see her get very far in her career.  Thank you for posting us on the magazine.  That meant the world to us all!

We tried so hard to get Alex to talk about himself, but he
continually brought the focus back to Jessica.  That's real character.  He wants to promote his friend much more than he wants to promote himself.  Maybe that's why he's standing so tall.

It was so nice to see Jessica profiled in H Style in the 201 section. She has certainly got everything it takes to become a big star one day.  Not only is she beautiful but a great singer and dancer as well.  I hope that we all get to see her featured again next time, on the front cover!

Jessica Galan is a very talented singer / dancer, she performed in my showcase the biggest (Showcase & Birthday Bash) in Brooklyn @ (Brooklyn Nights) on January 3, 2008 present by (Moore Entertainment) !!! Jessica Galan and her dancer most definitely did their thing (no question) but she left before the photographer from (World Media Magazine) could get a picture of her and her dance group !!! Besides that click on www.myspace.com/mooreent and there u will see the slide-show of the showcase also when u read about me on my page u will see we gave (Jessica Galan) a shout-out however I wish she didn't leave before we could get a picture but we will definitely get one in our upcoming showcase. Also click on www.myspace.com/chaosorganization there u will see our newspaper articles, community event we done, our clothesline, flag football team, etc. !!!

Did you hear about the woman stirring things up in West New York?

We
asked for just a little bit of feedback on artist Jessica Galan, out of West New York, and what we got, was much more than what we expected.  E-mails are pouring in.  Apparently the buzz about Jessica has gone as far as Nashville Tennessee, where one gorgeous Kenia Quezada, (see image at top of page) wrote us about her experience watching Jessica --get this-- an entire year ago.

Clearly this woman makes quite a lasting and far-reaching impression:

Hi my name is Kenia and I live in Nashville TN.  I went to NY on vacation about a year ago.  I was invited to Jessica's concert.  I really enjoyed myself.  I think that she really is very talented.  I really enjoyed the concert.  I really think she was awesome!!!!!

Sincerely,

Kenia

Stay tuned for much more on Jessica Galan.  We'll share with you more of the letters about Jessica, that are just flowing.
